Thrustmaster Formula Wheel Add-On Ferrari SF1000 Edition set for F1 2020

There’s a gaming controller in the mix this week made by Thrustmaster that’ll make all your other gaming steering wheels look pathetic by comparison. This is the Thrustmaster Formula Wheel Add-On Ferrari SF1000 Edition, and it’s absurdly detailed. This game works with the game F1 2020 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, right out the box – including the wheel’s own built-in display. It’ll work with more games in the future, too.

This game works with the Thrustmaster TM Connect Web platform to connect this wheel’s in-wheel screen to the game. The screen is a 4.3-inch / 109mm interactive panel with 21 LED lights. This display allows the user to display up to 69 “items of information”, “with different designs for the type of game being played or car being driven.” The wheel also works with 15 LEDs for engine speed and 6 LEDs for marshal flags.

The wheel has a 100% carbon fiber faceplate, textured rubber grips, and “perfectly-balanced Force Feedback and enhanced racing control.” The wheel works with 11 physical action buttons (and up to 25 buttons in total) with “a firm feel, to avoid inadvertent activation.”

Around the edge you’ll find 100% aluminum paddle shifters. They’re working with both push/pull and magnetic tech with “unlimited lifespan.” There’ll also be 2 alternative, customizable analog paddle shifters (sold separately.)

There’ll be a Formula Wheel Add-On Ferrari SF1000 Edition box available with the following items:

1 x Formula Wheel Add-On Ferrari SF1000 Edition steering wheel
1 x magnetic paddle shifters + 4 x attachment screws
1 x “Welcome to the Thrustmaster Club” flyer
1 x USB-C cable (15.8” / 400 mm)
1 x Allen key
1 x quick start guide
1 x warranty information flyer

If you’re looking for this accessory, you’ll find it available first on April 20, 2021 in Europe. It’ll then be available in APAC on May 18, then it’ll have commercial availability in the rest of the world on August 26, 2021. The price of this wheel on its own is approximately $350 USD. Add-on T-Chrono Paddles will be available for approximately $70 USD. They just keep ramping up and up and up!

OnePlus 8T review in progress: Return to a winning formula

The OnePlus 8T couldn’t have come at a better time. When OnePlus launched the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro earlier this year, they were the company’s most expensive phones ever, and they came amidst a premium smartphone slump fueled by economic uncertainty and a global pandemic. In short, people needed the Samsung Galaxy A71 but got the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra.

With the 8T, OnePlus has returned to its roots. At $750 from OnePlus, not only is it $50 cheaper than a comparably specced OnePlus 8, but it also brings the kind of high-end features and innovations that fans expect without cutting too many corners. You’re still not getting wireless charging, which is almost a running gag for OnePlus at this point, but you are getting stupendous 65W Warp charging out of the box.

While you’re missing out on a few other “pro” features like a curved Quad HD display and the newer Snapdragon 865+ processor, nothing about the OnePlus 8T feels inferior to phones costing upward of $1,200. Stacked up against the $700 Galaxy S20 FE and $799 iPhone 12, the OnePlus 8T is once again a true competitor.

Editor’s note: We’re still testing the OnePlus 8T and will update this review accordingly.

This story is part of our ongoing roundup of the best Android phones. Go there for information on competing products and how we tested them.

A beautiful design all around

Like every other phone in 2020, the OnePlus 8T doesn’t reinvent the wheel. It has a 6.55-inch display with a hole-punch camera and rounded corners, and a glass back that isn’t too glossy or slippery. It feels good in my hand and pocket, and likely hits the sweet spot for most people looking for a larger-screen phone.

The OnePlus 8T keeps the excellent alert slider.

OnePlus sent me the Aquamarine Green colorway, and I was instantly smitten. Like a chameleon, it changes between green and blue based on the lighting, and the color-matched sides create a nice contrast with the display. The camera array on the back is derivative of the flagship Galaxy phones and thus loses some of OnePlus uniqueness—particularly compared to the circular array on the 7T—but the 8T definitely ranks as one of the nicest phones OnePlus has ever made.

The niceness continues to the front as well. While at first glance the 8T has the same overall look as the 8 and 8 Pro, with a left-aligned hole-punch camera and slim bezels, a closer inspection will reveal that the bezels are more balanced. It’s a small thing, but OnePlus’s use of a bendable chip-on-panel OLED allows the top and bottom bezels to be symmetrical, which makes a subtle but meaningful difference.

It’s not quite as uniform as the iPhone 11, but it’s very close, and it’s an engineering feat that portends great things for the OnePlus 9. The OnePlus 8T is one of the few Android phones that feels like it was designed inside and out with a purpose, rather than assembled using pieces that somehow had to fit.

How to Watch Formula 1 Online

Every Formula 1 Grand Prix event is like a Super Bowl, All-Star Game, and championship party rolled into one. If that doesn’t sound exciting enough, you merely need to remember there are 20 of them each year, scattered across some of the most vibrant and affluent cities in the world. From Australia to Abu Dhabi, you won’t want to miss even a fraction of a second when it comes to engine roars and tire squeals.

There are a number of ways to stay up to date on one of the few driving sports that actually gives NASCAR a run for its money — and inspires countries to invest in technology. Read on for everything you need to know.

National streaming options

If you want unfettered access to F1 footage, who better to seek out than the source? In 2018, F1 launched its own subscription streaming service, F1 TV, which offers fans a banquet of videos and features to gorge themselves on. F1 TV comes in two tiers: Access, which grants the ability to watch replays, highlights, and F1 documentaries, among other features, and Pro, which offers all those same features plus live video, dashboard footage, “unedited” team radio, and more. In addition to video, F1 TV also offers users live data and leaderboards, so fans can keep track of what’s happening with every racer. Access costs $27 annually, while Pro costs $80 annually.

As of 2020, ESPN holds the television broadcast rights for F1 in the United States. The network broadcasts different events on ESPN, ESPN2, and ABC. So, your ability to watch races may depend on your specific cable or streaming package. If you don’t have cable or satellite, however, you can always watch replays of various sports events through ESPN’s official app, and you can get ESPN through SlingTV’s Orange package, Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, AT&T TV Now, or Fubo TV. You can also view the full schedule for the 2020 season on ESPN’s site, regardless of which method you choose.

Sky Sports F1 (U.K.)

Sky Sports is the ultimate provider of Formula 1 action. Few providers can compete with the three formats Sky Sports delivers. Racing fans can watch: On live TV, with the Now TV pass, and with Sky Go. The primary benefit of opting for Sky Sports is the complete lack of service interruption. Sky Sports broadcasts every single race with no gaps in live events. Those with a cable or satellite TV package can watch Formula 1 races on their dedicated channel. For the modern user, a Now TV pass can be bought for the day, week, or month. If you prefer to watch on your mobile device, just download the Sky Go app or go to the livestreaming page.

Christian de Looper/Digital Trends

The Formula 1 subreddit acts as a trusted information source and discussion board for all things Formula 1, and as a bonus, has a few live streams of races. The user-curated news and updates provide an excellent backdrop for arguing about which constructor brought the best sidepods to the show or which driver exhibits the best consistency. The discussions are also narrowed down by Grand Prix. This is an excellent place for discussion during the week leading up to Sunday’s race. Users supporting different teams can argue over who is going to claim the top spot when all is said and done.

The world of Reddit is quite mazelike. One false move and you’ve gone down the rabbit hole. It is a highly entertaining and informative platform; however, be ready to forfeit a significant portion of your time. Reddit’s user base is friendly and welcoming to all newbies curious about Formula 1 or any topic for that matter. It is a wonderful place to meet like-minded people who are enthusiastic about racing.
