PlayStation Play at Home returns for one final promo, this time with in-game freebies

Throughout the pandemic, Sony has giving out free games and running promotions as part of its Play at Home initiative. Earlier this year, Sony tapped the Play at Home initiative to give out a collection of free indie games, an extended three-month subscription to Funimation, and free copies of Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition. While we thought that might be it for Play at Home, Sony is bringing it back once more, and this time, PlayStation users are getting free in-game items and currency.

Sony is handing out in-game freebies for a number of different games, including Rocket League, Brawlhalla, Destruction AllStars, MLB The Show 21, NBA 2K21, Rogue Company, World of Tanks/World of Warships, Warframe, and Call of Duty: Warzone. The vast majority of these freebies will be available beginning on May 17th – in fact, the only thing that won’t be available is the content for Warzone, which is going live a few days later on May 20th.

As for what you’ll be able to get, that obviously depends on the game. You can see most of the in-game bonuses in the table below. In Rocket League, for instance, you’ll get the PlayStation Plus pack, which grants four blue-colored customization items. In some games, you’ll get in-game currency as well. That’s true in the case of the Warframe: Starter Bundle, which grants players 100 Platinum, 100,000 Credits, a 7-day Affinity Booster, and the Essential Base Damage Mod Bundle.

The Play at Home perk for Warzone is particularly interesting, as you’ll get five hour-long double XP tokens that will be delivered in your Message of the Day. The tokens give you a chance to speed up leveling, but since they only last an hour, you’ll want to redeem them when you’ve got a solid block of free time ahead of you so you can maximize those gains.

All of the freebies for games other than Warzone go live on Monday, May 17th at 8 PM PDT/11 PM EDT and can be redeemed from the PlayStation Store, while the Warzone double XP tokens will go live on May 20th at 10 AM PDT/1 PM EDT. All of the freebies – including those for Warzone – will be available until June 6th at 11:59 PM PDT/June 7th at 2:59 AM EDT. Sony says this is the final Play at Home promotion it’ll be hosting, so savor it while it lasts.

Outriders preps in-game freebies as an apology for launch connection issues

It’s safe to say that Outriders has suffered something of a rocky launch. While there seems to be a lot of interest in Outriders, there was a bit too much for the game’s opening weekend and its first week of availability, with players reporting connection issues that were only recently resolved. No one likes to experience connection issues in games they were looking forward to playing, so as something of an olive branch to a frustrated community, Square Enix has announced that it will be giving all Outriders players a “Community Appreciation Package.”

As the name suggests, the package will give some items to players who stuck with the game during its server woes. Everyone who played Outriders between March 31st and April 11th (based on the UTC timezone) will receive three items in total: A level-appropriate Legendary weapon, a level-appropriate amount of Titanium, and an emote titled “Frustration” that Square Enix says is just a coincidence despite the fact that it fits the mood pretty well.

These items will be delivered to players’ highest-level character, and even those who played outside the window but still had an “automatic inventory wipe restoration” on their account will also receive these items. One thing to note is that the plans for this Community Appreciation Package haven’t been finalized yet – Square Enix says that its intention is to provide these items to players, but “details are subject to change based on what is technically feasible” for the studio.

With that in mind, Square Enix doesn’t have a timeline for when these products might be delivered, so we don’t know when we can expect these in-game freebies just yet. In a separate thread published to Reddit today, Square Enix explains what caused the connection issues and how the company worked toward resolving them.

So, for now, there’s a lot that’s unknown about this Community Appreciation Package, but assuming everything works out the way Square Enix intends it to, Outriders players should be receiving the items listed above before too much longer. We’ll let you know when Square Enix provides an update about the Community Appreciation Package, so stay tuned for more.

Monster Hunter Rise freebies drop as sales hit 5 million

We’re only about a week-and-a-half out from the launch of Monster Hunter Rise, and it’s already safe to say the game is already a success. Shortly after announcing that the game had shipped 4 million units by the end of its first weekend of availability, Capcom has now revealed that Monster Hunter Rise has sold – not shipped – 5 million copies around the world, a figure that includes digital downloads as well.

To celebrate this milestone, Capcom has started handing out some in-game freebies to all players. Players logging into Monster Hunter Rise today will find that they have a new item pack called Kamura Pack 1: Big Hit Celebration waiting for them, with Capcom distributing these item packs to all players beginning at 12 AM UTC this morning.

The Kamura Pack includes 30 Mega Potions, 20 Well-Done Steaks, 10 Large Barrel Bombs, 5 Mega Demondrugs, and 5 Mega Armorskins. Some of these items – specifically the Mega Potions and the Well-done Steaks – are fairly easy to get in game, but they’re all items that every budding hunter needs, so we imagine these packs will be put to good use among Monster Hunter Rise‘s playerbase.

In order to claim this pack, you’ll first need to update your game and then head to the courier to claim it. That’s all you need to do, but of course, keep in mind that the Kamura Pack 1 can only be claimed once, so don’t go wasting or discarding the items that are in it.

The way this item pack is titled – Kamura Pack 1 – suggests that Capcom is planning to give out more of these item packs in the future. Perhaps we’ll get more freebies as Monster Hunter Rise keeps passing sales milestones? Only time will tell, but we’ll be sure to let you know of any other free item packs that come down the pipeline.

PlayStation Play at Home serves up game freebies led by Horizon Zero Dawn

Sony revived its PlayStation Play at Home promotion this month by giving away free copies of Ratchet & Clank for PS4 (which is still available if you haven’t yet claimed it), and now the company is detailing what’s next for Play at Home. When Sony announced its return back in February, it confirmed that it would have more freebies to give away to PlayStation gamers, but few of us probably imagined it would be giving away as many games as it announced today.

Beginning on March 25th, Sony will be handing out a slate of indie titles. Abzu, Enter the Gungeon, Rez Infinite, Subnautica, The Witness, Astro Bot Rescue Mission, Moss, Thumper, and Paper Beast will be free to claim and keep starting on the 25th at 8 PM PDT/11 PM EDT, and they’ll be available until April 22nd at 8 PM PDT/11 PM EDT.

That’s a pretty impressive mix of PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR titles, so be sure to claim them during the month that they’re free. In addition to offering these free games, Sony is offering an extended three month trial to Funimation. That kicks off on March 25th and runs through April 22nd as well, so be sure to claim that as you add this collection of games to your library.

We’re going to have to wait until April to get what is arguably the biggest freebie, though. From April 19th at 8 PM PDT/11 PM EDT until May 14th at the same time, PlayStation users will be able to claim Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition. This, as the title suggests, comes with the base game along with all of the DLC that was released for it, so if you’ve been a patient gamer in regards to Horizon Zero Dawn, it looks like your decision to wait is paying off big time.

Sony says that it will have more to share soon, but it’s unclear if that means more content drops are coming in the future. We’ll let you know when Sony announces more, but in the meantime, be sure to claim Ratchet & Clank before that offer runs out on March 31st at 8 PM PDT.
