‘Kirby’s Dream Buffet’ looks like a mash-up of ‘Fall Guys’ and ‘Mario Party’

Even though there’s already been one major Kirby game this year, Nintendo’s lovable pink puffball is making a second appearance sometime later this summer in Kirby’s Dream Buffet.

While Nintendo’s official description is a bit sparse, Kirby’s next adventure is billed as a four-player party game that will see gamers “roll through a smorgasbord of food-themed stages” while bulking up on strawberries. At the end of four rounds, players will battle it out in a “fruity fight atop a floating platform” to determine which Kirby reigns supreme.

Based on footage from Nintendo’s trailer, Kirby’s Dream Buffet features obstacle courses reminiscent of Fall Guys, but without the massive 60-player lobbies you get in Mediatonic’s popular battle royale-style platformer. In addition to four human players, it appears you’ll also have to compete against NPCs in the form of computer-controlled Waddle Dees. You can gain advantages by using various power-ups like speed boosts or Kirby’s signature copying ability, while some glimpses of the final round look like an evolved version of Mario Party’s classic Bumper Balls mini-game.

So far, Nintendo has yet to provide an official release date for Kirby’s Dream Buffet, only specifying that the game will be released sometime this summer on the Nintendo eShop. Pricing is also still to be determined, though based on the scope and nature of the game, I’m not expecting it to feature a full $60 price tag like you usually get with big tentpole Nintendo titles.

‘Fall Guys’ lands on Switch, Xbox and Epic Games Store on June 21st

It’s been over a year since Mediatonic confirmed Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout was coming to Xbox and Nintendo Switch. After some delays, the wait is almost over. The ridiculously fun battle royale platformer is coming to those platforms, as well as Epic Games Store, on June 21st. A dedicated PlayStation 5 version is on the way too. Full cross-play and cross-progression will be available across all platforms as well.

What’s more, Fall Guys is going free-to-play. Epic pulled a similar move with Rocket League after snatching up Psyonix. Existing players on PlayStation and Steam will receive a legacy pack, which includes three costumes and some other bonuses. Newcomers who pre-register can claim some swag as well.

It’s not a huge shock that Fall Guys is coming to the Epic Games Store — Epic bought Mediatonic parent Tonic Games Group last year. Users have needed an Epic account to play Fall Guys since November, when cross-progression was added. However, the game will no longer be available to new players on Steam. Those who already bought it on that platform will still get new content and updates, though.

A new season will also get underway on June 21st. Mediatonic is resetting the counter and calling it Season 1: Free For All. It will be the first seasonal update since November and, as ever, there will be new levels and more cosmetics.

For the first time, there will be a premium (i.e. paid) season pass with 100 tiers and extra cosmetic items. Those who receive the legacy pass will get free access to the premium season pass for season one. A free season pass will still be available with other items to unlock.

Crowns will no longer be used for currency to buy items in the store. The crown rank feature will be boosted with more rewards. Unspent crowns will be converted into Kudos. There will be another in-game currency called Show-Bucks, which can be used to buy the premium season pass. Costumes that are on the way include Ezio from the Assassin’s Creed series, along with Mecha Godzilla and Mothra.

There’s one more big update on the way: a level creator. This was announced as being “under construction” and, while it won’t be arriving any time soon, it’s an exciting feature to look forward to.

The game debuted on PS4 and Steam in August 2020 and was an instant hit, racking up millions of players on PC in just a few days and becoming the most-claimed game in the history of PlayStation Plus at the time. It seems player numbers have dropped quite a ways since the early days — having increasingly lengthy seasons likely hasn’t helped. However, the arrival of Fall Guys on more platforms, the free-to-play shift and a new season should all bring new and lapsed players into the fold.

‘Fall Guys’ for Switch and Xbox delayed until 2022

The latest season of is underway and although there’s a party vibe this time around, those on and are unfortunately unable to join the festivities. Developer Mediatonic has once again delayed the adorable battle royale on those platforms. The Switch and Xbox versions were initially supposed to arrive last summer, but they were pushed back until . Now, according to , Fall Guys will land on those platforms in 2022.

“We know everyone’s excited about Fall Guys coming to Nintendo Switch and Xbox, with good reason,” Mediatonic wrote in a blog post. “There’s been a lot of speculation on social media connecting these new console releases to the Season 6 launch and we want to clarify that that’s not the case so no one’s left confused looking for the game on these platforms. Thank you for being patient with us, it’s one of our top priorities in active development and we can’t wait to share more details with you in 2022.”

Although the news will come as a disappointment for would-be Switch and Xbox players, Fall Guys fans on PlayStation and PC have a lot more to check out after . Along with new levels, obstacles and cross-platform progression, there are a couple of fantastic costumes based on Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima to unlock. There will be more limited-time events too, such as one starting tomorrow in which players can earn a super-cute Sackboy costume.

‘Fall Guys’ season six features a party theme and a ‘Ghost of Tsushima’ crossover

The next season of Fall Guys starts on November 30th and the beans are getting into the party spirit. Developer Mediatonic took inspiration from festivals, carnivals and the circus for season six. New obstacles include a water balloon cannon, vacuum tubes, a circular version of the infamous seesaw and a platform that flips vertically after a certain length of time. What’s more, there are trapezes that players can swing from.

There are more crossover costumes on the way in season six. Between December 1st and 5th, you can complete challenges to earn a Sackboy skin — the adorable PlayStation mascot is a perfect fit for Fall Guys. In addition, the Fame Pass, which players level up during the season, includes two rad costumes depicting Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima.

Meanwhile, cross-progression is coming to the battle royale platformer in season six, building on the cross-play feature that arrived in May. So you’ll be able to access all of your costumes and other cosmetics across PlayStation and Steam. In addition, PC players will be able to select custom usernames again instead of whatever moniker Fall Guys generated for them.

As such, you’ll soon need an Epic Games account to play Fall Guys. Epic bought Mediatonic earlier this year, and Rocket League and Fortnite use the Epic account system for cross-progression too.

You’ll need to select a primary Fall Guys account, which is the first one that you link to an Epic account. Although you won’t lose costumes, nameplates and so on from either platform, you’ll only retain your season progress, crowns, shards and kudos from your primary account. So, it’s probably best to spend your crowns and kudos on your secondary account before the new season starts.

Mediatonic also notes that if players have different costumes and DLC content across both platforms, they should contact the support team after linking to their Epic Games account. The team will transfer over those items, so you won’t lose them. In addition, all players will receive a bonus of 10 crowns.

During the season six showcase, Mediatonic didn’t mention when the Nintendo Switch and Xbox versions of Fall Guys will be released, even though they’re still supposed to arrive by the end of the year. However, the developer did provide a peek at an upcoming round that features invisible beans.

Ratchet & Clank’s dimension hopping has landed them in Fall Guys

Fall Guys has had no lack of guest characters appear as costumes in the game. We’ve seen famous characters like Sonic the Hedgehog, Godzilla, Cuphead, and the DOOM Slayer (and many, many more) all appear as limited-edition costumes, but soon, Fall Guys will get new costumes based on two widely-loved PlayStation characters: Ratchet & Clank. The costumes are arriving later this month, but you’ll need more than just crowns to unlock them.

As announced on the PlayStation Blog today, Ratchet & Clank will be arriving in Fall Guys on July 26th. Ratchet & Clank have their own cosmetic sets that include not only upper and lower costume pieces but also banners, patterns, and emotes. Players will need to complete a series of challenges to unlock everything, with Ratchet’s cosmetics collection up first.

Ratchet’s items will be up for grabs from July 26th through August 1st. Players will need to collect points by completing challenges to unlock everything. Check out the progression for the Ratchet event below:

• Ratchet Banner: 600 points
• Lombax Pattern: 1000 points
• Ratchet Costume (Lower): 1600 points
• Groovitron Emote: 2000 points
• Ratchet Costume (Upper): 3200 points

Then, from August 6th through the 15th, it’ll be Clank’s turn. Like Ratchet, Clank has a series of challenges to complete in order to unlock everything, with a progression that’s the same as what we see for Ratchet’s items:

• Clank Banner: 600 points
• Clank Pattern: 1000 points
• Clank Costume (Lower): 1600 points
• Clank’s Laugh Emote: 2000 points
• Clank Costume (Upper): 3200 points

Completing both events will unlock a special Rivet-themed banner, so even though our newest Lombax hero isn’t getting her own reward track, she’s at least present in some form. Rivet, of course, is one of the stars of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, a game that we thought was particularly excellent and worthy of a spot in every PS5 owner’s game collection. These limited-time events go live in Fall Guys next week, so get ready to knock out some challenges if you want to own these Ratchet & Clank cosmetics.

Fall Guys Heads To The Jungle Tomorrow With Season 5

Departing from its neon-soaked futuristic fourth season, Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, the Wipeout-esque battle royale, is heading to the jungle. The game’s fifth season launches on July 20 with a heap of new themed costumes, rounds, and other events.

Fall Guys developer Playtonic hasn’t given out any details of what players can expect in the game’s upcoming season, but PlayStation gave a solid idea of what to expect on Twitter. Along with a new trailer for Fall Guys Season 5, the tweet says that players can expect “six new rounds, events, and more.” The names of the new events and rounds coming to the game have not been revealed yet.

While Playtonic has played coy with any information on Fall Guys‘ upcoming season, the trailer released today also gave some looks at the new content players can look forward to. First and foremost, the clip is full of new costumes that players can dress their running jelly beans up as. Alongside the required jungle explorer costume, it seems like players will also be able to pick up costumes that dress their characters as cowboys, pirates, pack llamas, and even mummies.

As for the game’s new rounds, today’s trailer was filled with hints, although they’re a bit vague. Naturally, all the maps players will be running through as part of the Season 5 update will be jungle-themed, but some will retain the usual Fall Guys style, such as one round shown that apparently has players fall down through a massive Pachinko board. Players can also expect to be chased by a rhinoceros at some point, and climb up an ancient temple to snag a crown.

Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is currently available on PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC.

Fall Guys Season 4.5’s long list of new features includes cross-play

You don’t have to be developed by a large, famous game company to make it big in the industry. You just need unique and addictive elements to get people, sometimes even politicians, hooked. Indie titles like Among Us and Fall Guys definitely aren’t your cookie-cutter triple-A games but they still rake in hundreds if not thousands of faithful players. For Fall Guys, those players have been segmented into their respective platforms but starting with Season 4.5 “Dave”, they’ll finally be able to play with and against each other.

While gamers on their respective platforms still play up their rivalries, those often get lost inside the games themselves where they compete based on their own respective merits as players. Unfortunately, those boundaries between PCs and the different consoles aren’t just based on brand. Fortunately, gamers have also started to look for and demand cross-platform gameplay, especially for online games where platforms should matter less.

That’s exactly what will be arriving in Season 4.5 of the popular competitive online multiplayer Fall Guys, coming in just a few hours. It actually has a long list of exciting new features but the one that will probably interest gamers the most is the announcement of cross-play between PC and PS4 players. Starting with the update, they will be able to matchmake together without any care for where you’re playing it from.

Unfortunately, the cross-play implementation is far from done. Players from across the divide still can’t form parties together but developer Mediatonic hints it’s not the end of the story yet. More importantly, Fall Guys still isn’t available on other platforms like the Xbox and the Nintendo Switch and there’s no word on when that’s coming.

Beyond the major cross-play feature, Season 4.5 also brings includes 2 new rounds and 55 variations across the game’s 12 rounds. There are also improvements and fixes in the overall gameplay experience, including being able to report cheaters. This rather large changelog will be coming on May 13 and, despite the “Just Dave” name, is quite a significant one that will keep Fall Guys fans coming back.

Fall Guys for Xbox and Switch delayed and crossplay is to blame

Fall Guys, in case you haven’t heard, is coming to Xbox and Switch at some point in the future. Originally, the Xbox and Switch versions of the game were slated to launch sometime this summer, but now both versions have been delayed. Instead, developer Mediatonic has indicated that it will add cross-play to Fall Guys before launching on Xbox and Switch.

“With so many new opportunities now in our hands, we’ve realised that our previously announced Summer 2021 Switch and Xbox release schedule is unfortunately just too soon for us to include all of the tasty new features we’re working on,” Mediatonic said in a blog post today. The company went onto the explain that the delay will give the team “some time to add features like crossplay,” and suggested that the feature would be live in both the Switch and Xbox versions from day one.

Unfortunately for those eager to dive into Fall Guys on Xbox or Switch, Mediatonic didn’t give us the new release window it’s targeting for both of those versions. The hope is that this delay won’t be too dramatic – perhaps we’ll see Fall Guys come to Xbox and Switch this fall instead of this summer? – but without a new target from Mediatonic, it’s impossible to say that for sure.

In the more immediate future, Mediatonic says that it will keep rolling out new seasons and all that entails, including new costumes, shows, and rounds. Mediatonic also specifically references the upcoming Season 4.5 update for Fall Guys, which will add two new rounds and refresh the number of costumes available.

Other than that, though, we’re being left in the dark. Mediatonic says that it will be “communicating any updates as soon as we can,” so we’ll let you know when those updates come around the bend.

Is Fall Guys Cross-Platform? Here’s Everything We Know

Fall Guys set itself up for success by launching for free on PlayStation Plus, but the response has been even greater than developer Mediatonic could have expected. As one of the most played games on Steam and PS4, as well as one of the highest viewed games on Twitch, Fall Guys is a bona-fide viral hit. It’s only available on PC and PS4, but developer Mediatonic plans on bringing Fall Guys to other platforms, hopefully with cross-platform support.

Right now, Fall Guys is restricted to the platform it’s on, so Steam works with Steam and PS4 works with PS4, but the two don’t cross. Thankfully, Mediatonic has addressed crossplay, saying that it should come to Fall Guys in the future. Here’s everything we know about Fall Guys cross-platform support, cross-save, and split-screen multiplayer.

Is Fall Guys cross-platform?

Let’s get the bad news out of the way: Fall Guys doesn’t support cross-platform play right now. It should come in the future, though. Developer Mediatonic has been vocal about its desire to bring crossplay to Fall Guys as soon as possible. On the Fall Guys support page, Mediatonic writes that it’s “something we really want to do in the future,” and urges fans to reach out on Discord if they want the feature. Building upon that, lead designer Joe Walsh mentioned crossplay specifically as a feature the team was looking into on a recent episode of the MinnMax Show.

The only question is when. Mediatonic hoped Fall Guys would be a success launching on PlayStation Plus, mirroring the trajectory of Rocket League. And it worked, with Fall Guys gathering more than 1.5 million players in its first 24 hours. At the time of writing, it’s one of the most played games on Steam, too, beating out Team Fortress 2 and Rocket League, among others. Although server and bug fixes filled the patch notes for the first few weeks, it seems Mediatonic is finally getting around to adding more features to the game, as well as expanding it to other platforms.

Bilibili, a Chinese website for video-sharing, gained rights for publishing for a mobile spot of China’s Fall Guys. People involved in data mining also discovered the plug-in for Switch SDK within the Steam game version. If Mediatonic has learned anything from Apex Legends, we could have support launch across many platforms along with Switch and mobile game versions. Unfortunately, when our Digital Trends team reached out to Mediatonic, they informed us that they were headed in a different direction, focusing their energy on PS4 and PC adaptations. Psyonix introduced a version of Rocket League to Xbox One only seven months after its PC and PS4 releases. Hopefully, the Fall Guys team will follow suit.

Cross-save and cross-progression

Mediatonic has concentrated on incorporating cross-platform gameplay but has yet to address cross-saves. You can carry cosmetics across platforms, but there may not be any story progression carryover. Hopefully, cross-progression will accompany the eventual release of

crossplay. One thing Games such as Fortnite have taught us is that games compatible with multiple systems have unparalleled sales success with gamers across the board. With the continuing popularity of Fall Guys, it’s almost a given that the game will offer cross-progression eventually.

What about split-screen?

Fall Guys doesn’t support split-screen multiplayer as of now, but Mediatonic has addressed split-screen along with cross-platform functionality. According to Joe Walsh in a Reddit AMA, they’re working on split-screen but had to put it on hold to finish the game on time. Due to the increased demand for split-screen and multi-player gameplay, Walsh also assures people that it won’t be long before such features debut.

Epic Games buys up Mediatonic: What does this mean for Fall Guys?

Mediatonic is a developer that rose to meteoric fame last year with the release of Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, and today we’re learning that the studio will be joining Epic Games. Epic has entered an agreement to purchase Mediatonic, though we’re not sure how much the deal is worth. We’ve been seeing Epic make similar moves with other high-profile indie developers, such as Rocket League developer Psyonix.

That Psyonix buyout might have Fall Guys fans a little anxious about what happens next, as one of Epic’s first orders of business upon acquiring Psyonix was to announce that Rocket League was going to be removed from Steam and go free-to-play as it launched on the Epic Games Store.

For the moment, though, nothing seems to be changing with Fall Guys. According to an FAQ published to Mediatonic’s website today, the game will still be purchasable through Steam and on PlayStation, and those planned Nintendo Switch and Xbox ports are still in the works. Mediatonic also has “nothing to announce right now” concerning whether or not Fall Guys will go free-to-play in the future, though we honestly wouldn’t be surprised to see it follow Rocket League and Fortnite in that regard – Epic does love free-to-play games, after all.

Mediatonic would also like to implement a lot of features that Rocket League and Fortnite already support, such as “account systems, cross-play, squad vs squad modes, etc…” So, it’s possible that we could see those features come to Fall Guys at a faster rate now that Epic is paying the bills.

We’ll just have to wait and see what happens from here, but at the very least, a Fall Guys launch on the Epic Games Store is almost certainly inevitable. We’ll let you know when the two companies share more, so stay tuned for that.
