Acer Predator Triton and Helios gaming laptops launch with 5G accessories

In addition to its new gaming desktops and monitors, Acer has introduced its latest gaming laptop and accessories lineup, including the Predator Helios 500 and Predator Triton 500 SE models. In addition to the laptops, the company has launched the Predator Connect X5 5G CPE router, the Predator Connect D5 5G dongle, and the Predator Cestus Gaming Mouse 335.

Acer Predator Helios

Joining the new Triton model is the Predator Helios 500 gaming laptop, a model featuring the 11th-generation Intel Core i9 processor, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 laptop GPU, as well as 64GB of RAM. The laptop features a 17.3-inch display with different panel options, including the 4K Mini LED 120Hz option or the Superfast Full HD 360Hz display with a 3ms response time.

Acer has packed a bunch of features into this model, including support for two PCIe NVMe SSDs in Raid 0 plus one SATA hard drive for ample storage space. As you’d expect from a gaming laptop, there’s also a robust thermal system that includes Acer PowerGem and Vortex Flow with two fans.

As the images show, the Helios also sports Predator Pulsar lighting with customizable light bars. The keyboard’s RGB backlighting can be customized, plus the WASD keys can be swapped with MagForce or Racing keys. Connectivity is extensive with things like Intel Killer Ethernet, including DoubleShot Pro 5G, plus there’s WiFi 6, DTS:X Ultra audio, and simulated 3D surround sound.

The Predator Helios 500 will be available in North America in August with a starting price of $2,499.99 USD.

Acer Predator Triton

The new Predator Triton 500 Special Edition (“SE”) is a gaming laptop capable of powering AAA games. The model packs the 11th-generation Intel Core i9 processor, as well as the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 laptop GPU, up to 64GB of RAM, and up to 12 hours of battery depending on usage. Users can get the laptop with up to 4TB of internal storage.

Despite this, the laptop remains slim for a gaming machine at 0.75-inches. The Predator Triton packs a 16-inch display with an 87-percent screen-to-body ratio. Users can choose from three different panel options, including two with a 165Hz refresh rate and one with a 240Hz refresh rate.

Other features include WiFi 6, Intel Killer E3100G Ethernet controller, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, Acer’s Vortex Flow cooling design with AeroBlade 3D Fan, and an SD 7.0 card reader. The Predator Triton 500 SE will be available in North America next month with a starting price of $1,749 USD.

Accessories

Joining the two new gaming laptop models are three accessories: the Predator Connect X5 5G CPE Router, the Predator Connect D5 5G Dongle, and the Predator Cestus Gaming Mouse 335. According to Acer, its new Predator Connect X5 5G CPE is the first ever 5G CPE compatible with Intel Killer, offering 5G connections with download speeds up to 4.7Gbps. The router was designed specifically for gamers, which is why it includes a GAME Port, WiFi 6, and the ability to connect up to a huge 256 devices.

The Predator Connect D5 5G Dongle, meanwhile, is a USB-C dongle featuring 5G connectivity and the ability to transform the laptop into a 5G WiFi hotspot. This is joined by the Predator Cestus 335 ergonomic mouse sporting a PixArt 3370 sensor, 2000Hz polling rate, and five DPI levels up to 19,000. As well, the mouse has 10 programmable buttons.

The accessories’ prices and availability are unclear.

Acer’s loaded Predator Helios 300 gaming laptop drops under $1,000 for Amazon Prime Day

The Acer Predator Helios 300 has dominated Amazon’s bestselling laptops list for years now, and it’s easy to see why: This thing manages to be popular, powerful, and affordable all at the same time. And until tomorrow night, it’s even cheaper thanks to a $201 discount applied for Amazon Prime Day.

The latest iteration of Acer’s modern classic packs in some serious hardware despite its modest $999 sale price: A Core i7-9750H processor and powerful GeForce GTX 1660 Ti graphics card feed a blazing-fast 144Hz IPS display, paired with 16GB of DDR4 RAM and a speedy, yet small 256GB NVMe SSD you’ll probably want to supplement with a more spacious drive to hold today’s massive games. Fortunately, this laptop’s easy to upgrade, and with its ports a-plenty and backlit keyboard, the Predator Helios 300 can be a potent game-ready road warrior.

If you don’t mind slightly slower (but still solid) gaming performance in order to save $100, last year’s version of the Acer Predator Helios 300 is also on sale for $899. It’s packing last-gen Core i7-8750H and GeForce GTX 1060 chips, but should be largely identical otherwise. We loved it.

You need to be an Amazon Prime subscriber to be eligible for the deal. If you’re not, you can sign up for a 30-day free trial to see what all the hubbub’s about. For even more delicious deals, check out our curated roundup of the best Amazon Prime Day sales.

Acer Predator Helios 300: We review the bestselling gaming laptop on Amazon

Acer’s Predator Helios 300 has achieved something we never thought a gaming laptop could do. It actually manages to be popular, powerful, and affordable.

You’d think popularity would be the hardest thing to prove, but that’s what caught our eye first. A specific model of the Predator Helios 300 has maintained a steady position among the top ten bestselling laptops on Amazon for many, many weeks. It just won’t quit.

top ten gaming laptop Amazon

Month after month, the Acer Predator Helios 300 consistently ranks as the top selling gaming laptop on Amazon.com.

We reviewed the original Predator Helios 300 here and called it a “great notebook.” Months later, we tested a model updated with Intel’s 8th-gen Core i7, and clad in an eye-catching white-and-gold chassis. With a markup in price of several hundred bucks, our opinion was far more muted.

The model that’s selling so well on Amazon is basically that same updated laptop, but without the marked-up price to go with that white exterior. That’s why we decided to bring in this laptop to get a closer look at what it offers—and why it’s managed to hit such a sweet spot.

Looking into the specs, we can see why it’s powerful (relatively, anyway): With its GeForce GTX 1060, 6-core Core i7-8750H, 16GB of RAM, 1080p/144Hz panel and 256GB SSD, it’s a decently configured gaming laptop.

Considering those specs, its list price of $1,100 is pretty fair, and the 5.5-pound weight is pretty bearable too.

Acer Predator Helios 300 ports

One of the few things that hasn’t changed on the Predator Helios 300 is the connectivity—and that means it’s starting to get a little outdated. The right side of the Predator Helios 300 houses two pokey-slow USB 2.0 ports, along with a headphone jack.

On the left side you get a dedicated charging port, Gigabit ethernet (using a Realtek ethernet chip), one USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C (5Gbps), one USB 3.0 Type-A, and an SD card reader. The fact that there’s just one USB-C port, and it’s not even Thunderbolt 3, is disappointing, though not surprising for the price.

Acer Predator Helios 700 review: You can’t call it a gimmick if it works

Acer’s burly Predator Helios 700 doesn’t care what you think it looks like. There’s no attempt to hide girth with sculpted cuts or optical illusions—the  laptop equivalent of sucking in your gut for a picture. Nope, the Predator Helios 700 makes no apologies for styling seemingly profiled on either either a Mack truck or a cinderblock.

What it does is deliver exactly what you’d expect of Intel’s newest 9th gen 8-core, Core i9-9980HK CPU and a full-tilt Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080. And it has a special feature you might call a gimmick, except it actually works.

Predator Helios 700 specs and features

The Predator Helios 700 is a no-holds-barred gaming laptop, as you can see from this substantial list of specs:

CPU: Intel 9th gen 8-core Core i9-9980HK

RAM: 32GB DDR4

GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080

Storage: 1TB PCIe NVMe SSD

Display: 17.3-inch IPS 144Hz
