Netflix Play Something shuffle feature goes live for everyone

Netflix’s previously announced ‘Play Something’ feature is finally going live for everyone around the globe, though you’ll need to have a connected TV to use it for now. The feature is essentially a shuffle button for Netflix, one that chooses a show or movie you haven’t watched based on your past viewing habits.

The Play Something feature is a tool for Netflix subscribers who want to watch something but can’t decide which show or movie to start. The feature uses Netflix’s algorithms to determine which content you may be interested in based on what you’ve already watched or saved.

The feature is now available on smart TVs globally; Netflix plans to also bring it to Android devices soon, but it’s unclear when it’ll arrive on Apple’s mobile devices. According to Variety, the company doesn’t plan to make Play Something available on its desktop browser interface.

The tool acknowledges that you may not like the content that it plays, allowing users to choose a ‘Play Something Else’ button to move on to the next movie or TV series. This is, in a way, similar to flipping through channels on traditional live pay-TV services, though with the benefit of algorithms that try to find what you’ll like.

You may be taken to a movie or TV show that you started to watch in the past but never finished. It is also possible you’ll get a title that was previously saved to your account’s watchlist or something you’ve neither saved nor started to watch.

Newegg Shuffle restocks RTX 3060, 3070 but you have to be quick

Those of you looking to get your hands on new graphics cards from NVIDIA or AMD might want to check Newegg right now, where another Shuffle drawing is happening at the moment. Newegg actually publicized this particular Shuffle rather late during the selection window, so if you want to participate in this one, you’re going to need to act fast.

We’re talking very fast, as this selection window wraps up at 1 PM PST/4 PM EST. There a few different GPUs up for grabs this time around, with a few different RTX 3060, 3060 Ti, and 3070 cards from various manufacturers on offer, along with a couple of different AMD RX 6800 models. All of the graphics cards featured in today’s Newegg Shuffle have been hard-to-find for months, which is partly what makes these Shuffle drawings particularly attractive.

As a reminder, Newegg Shuffle works a bit differently than your average restock. Prospective buyers are able to select the items they’re interested in buying during the selection window, which is what we’re currently in. Then, Newegg will randomly draw winners who will then be able to purchase the products they’ve selected. Newegg will be drawing the winners today at 2 PM PST/5 PM EST.

It’ll alert the winners of the drawing via email, and then those who were drawn will have from 3:30 PM PST/6:30 PM EST to 7 PM PST/10 PM EST to actually purchase their products. You have to purchase your items during this window, otherwise you forfeit your reservation.

So, if you want to try your luck, you’ll need to select the products you want to buy quickly. We’ll let you know when the next Newegg Shuffle happens (assuming Newegg publicizes it in time), so those of you who miss out on this one should check back with SlashGear regularly to make sure you don’t miss the next one.

Newegg Shuffle could be the fix to RTX 30-series, PS5 restock woes

It’s not exactly a secret that PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles, along with new PC gaming hardware from NVIDIA and AMD, are all difficult to come by at the moment. Every time this hardware is restocked anywhere, it’s seemingly sold out in seconds, with resellers jacking up prices to insane degrees on sites like eBay. If you’ve tried and failed to get your hands on one of these consoles or CPUs, Newegg might have a fairer way of selling these products.

The company has implemented a lottery system called Newegg Shuffle, and the latest lottery is going on now. Until 2 PM Pacific time today (just about two hours from the time of this writing), Newegg users can head over to the website, pick out any items they’re interested in buying, and then enter into a lottery that will be drawn later today at 3 PM Pacific.

Newegg will notify the winners by email, and those winners will then have from 4 PM PT to 8 PM PT today to make their purchases. If you win the lottery, the hardware you picked out during the selection window will be reserved for you, but only during the buying window – if you don’t purchase the products you picked out during the buying window later today, you forfeit the reservation on them and will have to wait for the next Newegg Shuffle.

In all, there are several items that you can reserve in this iteration of the NewEgg Shuffle – the Ryzen 5 5600X, Ryzen 7 5800X, RTX 3070, RTX 3080, RTX 3090, and the PlayStation 5. Those of you hunting for a PlayStation 5 should be aware that the console is only available in a bundle that includes a PS5 Digital Edition, two DualSense controllers, the PS5 HD Camera, and the PS5 Media Remote, so be prepared to spend a little more on the console if you win the lottery.

Newegg will be running these Shuffle lotteries periodically as time goes on, and while it doesn’t solve the stock issues plaguing all of these products, it does at least make the buying process fairer. If you’re planning to enter the lottery, good luck to you, and we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more restock alerts.
